DelayPlay was a concept born out of frustration caused by watching sporting events on TV while listening to our favorite radio announcers call the game on the radio. The delay caused by Digital TV resulted in hearing the play seconds before seeing it unfold on TV. Knowing the result of a Field Goal attempt before the ball was even snapped was annoying at best...unacceptable to most. People tuned out and resigned themselves to listening to the TV commentators.

DelayPlay changes all of that. A user now has the option to delay the radio broadcast to more closely match the action on the field.

The number of Digital TV viewers, both Cable and Satellite, is increasing at a very rapid pace. Even local Terrestrial Broadcast stations that you used to pull in with rabbit ears are broadcasting in digital as mandated by the FCC. The number of viewers with Digital Set Top Boxes (STB) used to acquire these signals is growing even faster than expected. The process used to create Digital TV is the reason for the delay…as much as 8 seconds or more in the case of Satellite Dish viewers.

Your unit can adjust for that. Watching the Chicago Bears on Fox via Comcast cable today, I experienced the opposite - seeing the play seconds before hearing about it on local radio (WBBM AM 780). Does you unit adjust for that?

Most of Chicago area has the opposite problem of hearing the radio account before the TV. Most places it's about 5 to 7 seconds. However, depending on your cable source you may not have the problem, yet. Since all TVs will be HDTV by 2012 the TV delay will become more pronounced, and therefore radio will be ahead of the TV account. I have some DelayPlay users in who use their DVR to delay TV signal, then have the XT16 on a longer delay to match up the picture and the TV.
 
Is the delay set for a certain length of time or can it be adjusted for different delay lengths?
The DelayPlay XT  16 has  0 to 16 second Nearly Infinitely Variable delay.
 
 What kind of quality is the sound output?
True stereo HiFi quality capability.  Quality will depend on your AM/FM source and your output.

The DelayPlay XT 16 can be used in one of the following configurations: 

Configuration 1. Component System
In a component system, you simply use RCA cables to connect the XT 16 between the Tuner and the Pre-Amp (or Amp/Pre-Amp combo).
 
Configuration 2. Receiver System
If you will be adding the XT 16 to an integrated receiver system, you have the option of using the receiver as either the AM/FM source or as the Speaker output, but not both.
 
Option 1: Receiver as the AM/FM source.
With this option, you can connect the receiver to the XT 16 with either the 3.5mm cable running from the receiver’s headphone jack to the XT 16’s Line In port.
-or-
If your receiver is so equipped, you can connect the receiver’s RCA output jacks to the XT 16’s RCA In jacks.
-and-
You will have to connect a set of Powered Speakers like those commonly used with PC’s or iPods.
 
Option 2: Receiver as the Speaker output.
With this option, you will connect the XT 16’s RCA Out jacks to the receiver’s AUX In jacks.
-and-
Connect an AM/FM source such as a Walkman using the provided 3.5mm cable running from the Walkman’s headphone jack to the Line In port on the XT 16.
 
Configuration 3. Standalone Setup
In this configuration, you will have to connect both an AM/FM source such as a Walkman AND Powered Speakers to the XT 16.
 
Sample Connection Description
Connect the Delay play in between Stereo Receiver and amplifier.  TV audio will need to be supplied to receiver via RCA patch cords.

Connect "Audio Out" from TV to CD Audio In" on Stereo Receiver
Connect TAPE "Audio Out" from receiver to "Line IN" on DelayPLay
Connect "Line Out" DelayPlay to "Audio In" on Amp
Plug in power transformer and connect power cord to DelayPlay.
 
General Use Information
 
OK, now that the unit is connected, plug in the power cable and you’re ready to start enjoying what the XT 16 does best…Delay!
 
A few hints:
Turn on your AM/FM source first.
Push the Delay On/Off button once you’re ready to start using the XT 16.
The LED lets you know the Delay is on. It will also flash while the “buffer” is filling under certain circumstances.
The marks on the delay label are approximate. You can dial in the exact delay that works for your situation.
